On Tuesday, we had a STEM ambassador visit Year 5 linked to our Space topic in Science. First, we used 3D glasses to explore different pictures of the moon and exploring the properties of it. Then we watched a video of the effects of gravity on Earth, and in space, and then investigated what happens to objects falling with no air. With this, the children observed an experiment that was conducted with a feather and a bowling ball, perhaps ask your child which hit the ground first and why?
After that, we explored what is in the sky above us. We learnt how years ago, people looked at the sky and arranged the patterns into shapes based around ancient Greek animals and characters from stories (mythology). These patterns and names are called constellations.
Your challenge at home is to go outside when it is dark, and look to the South or South West and try and see Orion the Hunter!
