Community Links

The school continues to place great value on its links with the wider community, beyond the confines of the school and these are wide ranging:

  • Our creative curriculum uses children’s ideas as a basis for the topic/curriculum focus
  • We maintain close links with our local secondary schools and Essex University
  • A wide range of after school activities are organised by teaching staff.
  • School plays a large part in organising school fixtures and tournaments within the locality and taking part locally and within the county
  • The school has strong links with local cricket, rugby, football and tennis clubs
  • We promote awareness and use of local amenities such as Alton Water for sailing and Birch Hall for climbing
  • Buddy Groups have regular meetings
  • Summer Fayre and Christmas Bazaar provide opportunities for the children, with their parents, to interact with members of the local community. Children make games and donate items to raise money for school resources and events
  • Children take on responsibilities helping with daily routines in class and around the school eg registers, snack bins, recycling bins, bell monitors, Peer Mentors
  • The school P.T.A. offers parents and teachers a number of social outlets together with major fund-raising initiatives which have greatly enhanced the school’s profile and ability to resource
  • Harvest parcels are collected from the majority of pupil’s families and distributed, to the elderly throughout the town, by the Lions
  • Residents of local sheltered accommodation are visited, by Year 6 children who deliver harvest parcels
  • A whole school theatre visit to see a pantomime is held every year
  • School choir visits sheltered accommodation to sing carols at Christmas time and sing at the late night shopping event and at the Light Up a Life Hospice service at the local church
  • Year six grandparents and residents of local sheltered accommodation are invited to the KS2 Christmas presentation and served refreshments by the children
  • Nativity productions, Christmas carol concerts and a service at Easter are held at St Paul’s church allowing large numbers of family, friends and community members to attend
  • EYFS and Years 3/4 undertake an intergenerational project which sees them visit local residential homes to interact with the residents providing opportunities to build key social skills
