Last week Bumblebees and Dragonflies had an unexpected visitor!
Whilst we were learning outside, somebody went into our classrooms and trashed them! We arrived back to find chairs had been knocked over, our displays were ripped and our tables were upside down. What a mess!
Luckily, they left us lots of clues! We grabbed a clipboard and hunted the classroom, taking notes as we went.
Purple prickles? Orange eyes? A poisonous wart? Brown fur? Muddy footprints? A snake? An owl? A mouse?
Who could it be?!
We made predictions based on the clues.
“The angry colour monster because he’s knocked all the chairs over.” – Rosie M
“It’s a zombie!” – Maisie
“The paint monster.” – Louie
“Big foot has been here!” – Marley
“The little red hen is back!” – Mason
“A dragon!” – Leo
“The Gruffalo. He’s got orange eyes like those ones.” – Zachary
“Gruffalo. Those purple prickles are from his back!” – Aubrie
Have you guessed it?
We had a visit from the Gruffalo!
We read the story as a class and loved every second. We join in with the familiar parts and love to hear about all the Gruffalo’s favourite foods!
Roasted fox? No, thank you!
Owl ice-cream? Yuck!
Scrambled snake? No way!
Last week we worked really hard to describe our favourite characters. We used our sounds to write some adjectives to describe the characters and blew our teachers away with some of our vocabulary!
This week, we are going to be sequencing the key events in the story with a focus on the order of the animals as we meet them.
We can’t wait to keep reading this story! Don’t forget, you can use the ‘lucky listener’ extract provided on the weekly Early Years Express to help us become even more familiar with the story.
