We had a very exciting day in EYFS going on our very first school trip! We have been learning all about harvesting and healthy eating as part of our Celebration topic and took a visit to a local supermarket to find out more. We visited Asda in Clacton and had the chance to go behind the scenes and see where our food comes from and even try some new healthy snacks!
Bumblebees and Dragonflies split up and had the chance to have a really good explore of the warehouse and tasting experience. It was so exciting going behind the scenes of a supermarket – we got to see how the food gets from the warehouse to the shop floor, huge piles of items stacked up ready to go out and even a look in the chilly fridge and freezers. We had never seen a fridge and freezer as big as these before! Brrrrr!
We definitely needed a healthy snack after all that excitement – and had the chance to try some of the fresh fruit Asda sell. We tried; apple, pomegranate seeds, kiwi, raspberry, mango and orange. We spent time feeling, smelling and tasting to see what they were like.
Here’s what we thought of the healthy foods we tried…
“Mango is so sweet.” – Ellis B
“I love these!” – Mahdi (about the pomegranate seeds)
“This smells good!” – Mason (about the kiwi)
“The orange is juicy.” – Charlie
“The raspberries are sweet.” – Logan
“The kiwi seeds are hard on my tongue.” – Rosie M
“The orange is so sour!” – Peter
