It was a very exciting day here in EYFS as we went on our first ever school trip on Monday 20th March 2023. We wanted an exciting hook into our topic of Spring – so what better way than to experience it for ourselves. To do this we visited St Osyth Priory, where we saw so many signs of spring! It was a day jam packed with amazing moments and memories!

Over the course of the day we got to do some amazing activities. One of which was going on a tractor trailer ride. We had the chance to spot some amazing wildlife on the ride. We saw some beautiful rare white deer, some sheep and some long horned cows. We used our binoculars to spot all the animals and even saw the deer feeding up close!

One of the most popular elements of the day was the Forest School and mud kitchen activities. We all had a wonderful time exploring with mud and water, pulleys, guttering, mark marking and more in the brilliant outdoor area. Not only was this bags of fun but also a brilliant selection of activities for the children’s Early Learning Goals.

Our focus for this trip was Spring and outdoor learning, but we were also able to tap into some history too! We learned about the history of the priory and St Osyth who lived there. We did a fun scavenger hunt in the rose garden to find clues and then the fabulous staff told us all about what they meant.

No day in EYFS would be complete without Expressive Art and Design – so we enjoyed some Spring crafting in the historic chapel. We thought about Spring flowers, chicks (from our previous week of learning), lambs and insects as we created our artistic pieces.
